Stand-Alone Firefighter Beacon

New in May 2009, the Stand-Alone Pathfinder™ Firefighter Beacon is an SCBA-independent device: any firefighter can wear it with any SCBA or without. Operating on the Firefighter (RED) frequency, this lower-cost device affords the same level of protection as an integrated Beacon. Additionally, it allows any SCBA to be "upgraded" and can be used in operations not requiring an SCBA (such as USAR or overhaul).

The device funtions similar to a PASS device, but is not NFPA certified and is not intended to replace a firefighter's PASS Device. Removing the activation clip automatically turns the beacon ON and puts it into Monitor Mode. While in Monitor Mode a motion sensor detects the firefighter's movement. If there is no movement after 20 seconds, a Pre-Alarm tone is sounded. If the firefighter does not move after another 10 seconds (30 seconds total), the beacon goes into Alarm Mode and transmits both ultrasound and a 95+ dBA audible sound. Lastly, there is a "panic" button that allows the firefighter to put the beacon directly into Alarm Mode.

The flexible design of the Firefighter Beacon allows the department to customize deployment methods. Three standard 8-32 machine screw inserts allow firefighters to "customize" their Beacons with different mounting methods. The Firefighter Beacon ships with an industry-standard D-ring/clasp pre-installed. Additional integrated strap loops in the grills allow the beacon to be "threaded" into an SCBA waist band or shoulder strap.

    6 White, 6 Red, and 2 Green LEDs assist with locating a firefighter in low or high smoke conditions.
  • Hibernate Mode
    Allows a firefighter to place the beacon on the ground (for example during rehab) and temporarily turn it off without an activation clip. When the unit is picked up and/or moved, the motion sensor re-enables the beacon, placing it back into Monitor Mode.
